First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at US Department of Treasury.
Policy Analyst
So the first thing was a phone screening with the Deputy-Director. Then, there was a panel interview where I met with Deputies from three different offices. They asked me motivational questions, gave me a hypothetical case study to work through, and asked some behavioral questions. The next step is supposed to be an interview with the office head, but I haven't gotten to that part yet.
- Why are you interested in working for Treasury?
- Can you explain the CFIUS process?
- What is the U.S.'s position on foreign investment?
Analyst
I saw the job posting on my school's career center and sent in my resume and cover letter. Someone contacted me the same day asking for a writing sample. After I sent that, I got a call the next day for a phone interview. During the call, they said I'd have an in-person interview. This turned out to be a full round of interviews where I met with 8 people in smaller groups. The first interview was straightforward, asking about my past work and future aspirations. The next two were technical, focused on how I'd approach and solve given problems, with interviewers keen on my thinking process. Three more interviews followed, mostly similar to the first and very direct. I heard back within two business days with a job offer. HR contacted me about 10-12 days later. I started about 5 weeks after that.
- Can you tell me about the history of the Treasury?
Policy Analyst
The interview process was fair and asked questions that were relevant to the job. Things like skills, abilities, interests, why you were applying, talking about background, experience. Had 2 rounds so met 4 staff members.
- Can you elaborate on your skills and background?
- What are your interests relevant to this role?
- Tell me more about your experience.
