First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ursa Major Technologies.
Engineering Director
First I had a phone screen with a recruiter, and then a week later, I had another phone screen with the hiring manager. About two weeks after that, I went in for an on-site technical interview. The people I met were all really nice and talked a lot about the team's culture.
- Can you describe your leadership style?
- Could you explain an engine cycle?
Analysis Engineer
It was a pretty basic three-stage interview process: first a phone screen, then a technical 1-on-1 with the hiring manager, and finally an intensive on-site panel interview. The interviews felt a bit unbalanced, not giving me much time to ask my own questions, but instead really dug into my technical background and asked school-exam-style questions. Also, there wasn't much communication between stages, and after the 1-on-1, the wait for a response was so long I thought I'd been ghosted. The on-site involved a 45-minute presentation on my technical background, followed by a constant stream of 1-on-1s with different team members. Everyone was generally friendly, and they seemed to care about cultural fit. I felt like I was a strong candidate and answered the interview questions well. Sadly, I got a rejection with a vague reason about not fitting the role enough, which was confusing since they seemed interested and positive about my interview, and another reviewer mentioned something similar.
- Tell me about your technical background in depth.
- How do you handle personal fit questions?
- What would you do in specific scenarios?
Engineer
So first I had a quick chat with HR, which was pretty standard, mostly about my background and if I fit the company culture. Then, there was a video call for the technical part. This technical interview really dug into my past work and how it relates to what they're looking for in the job description.
- Can you share an example of when you embodied Cohesion, one of our company values?
- Tell me about a situation where you showed Conviction, which is one of our core values.
- Describe a time you acted with Honesty, as per our company principles.
