It was a really long process, with over five interviews. Most of the interviewers were really nice and asked good questions, so I had a good feeling about the people. I was bummed about how it ended because I was really ready and excited to start. The written offer had a lower salary than we talked about verbally, even though I asked for a salary in the lower part of the range. Also, they changed my job title to something else, but the work I'd be doing stayed the same.

I had an initial phone interview with an HR person for a position I was objectively highly qualified for. It seemed to go very well, but I later received a message that the hiring manager elected not to proceed with the second round. That alone puzzled me a little given my background, but it happens. What I did not appreciate was that when I requested feedback they ghosted me. No one "deserves" a position, but I think in a scenario like this, where an applicant is clearly qualified and has been interviewed, there should be a willingness to spend five minutes to help the person improve future outcomes. Just my two cents.

It started with a recruiter call, then a phone screen with some basic technical questions about thermodynamics, mechanical engineering, and physics. About a week after that, there was a technical phone interview covering general propulsion topics, common engineering practices, and some open-ended questions. The final stage was an on-site interview that included a tour of the facilities. After that, there was a panel interview with 4 people, following a 45-minute presentation where I talked about my experience and background. The interviews mostly consisted of high-level questions and deep dives into my background. The last part of the on-site involved an in-depth look at one of their engines.

So first I had a quick chat with HR, which was pretty standard, mostly about my background and if I fit the company culture. Then, there was a video call for the technical part. This technical interview really dug into my past work and how it relates to what they're looking for in the job description.
