It was a smooth process. We started with an open discussion about my skills and how I've handled real-time working scenarios. We covered topics like Devops/Networking, CI/CD, Security, Automations, Git, Terraform, Ansible, Shell, and Python. Agile methodologies were also discussed. The call lasted about an hour, followed by a manager round.

Behavioral Technical Coding

The interview was a 3-part process. First, a behavioral/culture fit call with HR, which was good and interesting. Second, another behavioral/culture call with the VP of Engineering, which also went well and gave good vibes about the company's direction. Third, the technical interview with a Senior Java engineer and a Lead engineer. This part was rough. Both interviewers were not on camera, which was weird for a remote-first company. The first interviewer wasn't very personable. The second interviewer, when they joined, immediately started with brief introductions about themselves and their team. Then they asked me to introduce myself. They asked an SQL question about selecting columns, joining tables, and formatting dates. Next, they asked about making Java classes immutable. After that, the first interviewer was done. The lead interviewer took over for a coding challenge: remove duplicate LinkNodes from a sorted list. I struggled with this as I hadn't worked with these data structures professionally, but I came up with a solution using a Set/Hashmap, but they didn't want an extra data structure. I eventually stumbled to the desired solution while explaining my thought process. The challenge took most of the time, and I was cut off to ask questions. I asked about the vacation policy and culture, receiving short answers or long pauses.

I applied online, which was straightforward. The interview was online via Google Meet. The interviewer made me feel comfortable but kept their camera off, which felt unprofessional, even though they said I could do the same. I was told I'd get feedback by the next Friday, about 7 business days out. When I didn't hear back after 7 business days, I emailed for feedback, assuming I didn't get the job and wanting to know how to improve. I still haven't received any response, nor did I get a reply to my thank you email after the interview. This lack of response seems unprofessional and reflects how they might treat customers, so I wouldn't want to work there.

The process included an initial online application followed by submitting a video response to several questions. Unfortunately, there was no follow-up after the video submission, even after sending emails inquiring about updates. This lack of communication from the Chief People Experience Officer was disappointing, especially for a role focused on people experience, as it doesn't reflect well on how employees might be treated. More effort should have been made to respond to candidates who invested time in preparing and submitting their videos.
