Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Urbint.
Data Scientist
The interview process started with a quiz, followed by a hiring manager screen, and then a take-home challenge. After that, I had to present my work to the team. They actually added more steps after I was already hired, which felt like too much for a startup environment.
- Can you explain the mechanics of a Random Forest algorithm?
Data Scientist
The recruiters were nice, but the interviewers came across as rude, unprofessional, or condescending. It was a red flag when interviewers yawned and spoke as if the candidate was boring. It seemed like they didn't enjoy interviewing, and the team appeared detached. If you're solely focused on getting a job and the money, this might be the place, but the people aren't great. There were many rounds, making it exhausting. One interviewer actually left the call and never returned.
- A take-home case study was given.
- A coding challenge was presented.
- Questions about ML were asked.
Data Scientist
The technical recruiter and the interviewers were very sympathetic, making me feel like a valued candidate. The company is growing rapidly and hiring for many roles, so patience is key if you don't hear back immediately after applying. Once you pass the initial screening, the rest of the process is very smooth.
- What are your strategies for handling imbalanced datasets?
