The interview process was pretty smooth. It kicked off with an initial screening, then I had my first stage interview with the Store Manager, followed by a second stage with the District Manager. The whole thing took about two weeks from start to offer. Both interviews felt really friendly and open, which made it easy to feel relaxed.

I noticed a Free People store was hiring and really wanted in because I've been into their clothes for about a decade. I even did college presentations on Urban brands, so I knew the company well. I applied online and got an email from the FP recruiter for an interview. I got there early and had to fill out the application, which had the usual questions plus some odd ones like 'What celebrity embodies the Free People image?'. After I turned it in, the recruiter and a new store manager tag-teamed the interview. They asked about my current job, my likes/dislikes, who the FP girl is, and what makes a manager effective. I felt like my appearance was being judged, which was distracting and ruined the interview. Normally I'm great at interviews, making eye contact and asking questions, but this one went terribly. It was also hard to gauge their reactions because they had no facial expressions and didn't ask follow-up questions. Then, they gave me a website with a bunch of questions about stealing or smoking pot at work, asking for my SS# and everything. I don't give that out unless I'm hired. I knew I wouldn't get the job after the interview, but they formally declined me by email nearly two months later.

The interview process is top notch. First is the initial video you upload alone and send them. This is immediately followed by a phone interview and finally the personal on-location interview. Everyone is friendly and professional, perfectly in line with their brand ethos. During the interview they get to know you personally as well as your professional history. Then they talk and walk you through the entirety of the store so you can familiarize yourself with their products. Overall a wonderful experience.
