First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Uptown Consulting.
Sales Agent
Applied online and got a call the next day about being selected for an interview. Went in at 9:30 am, and the interview was super quick, like 10 minutes. They asked general questions about my strengths, future goals (5 years out), past experiences, things I don't want to do, and my biggest accomplishment. Didn't get an answer right away, but they called later to say I passed the first round and the next step was to shadow someone for a typical day. During that shadowing day, the senior I was with asked a lot of opinion questions to see how I'd respond. After the day was over, I filled out a questionnaire, and then my initial interviewer grilled me on my answers. Got a call the next day with a job offer.
- Can you explain the distinction between a leader and a manager?
Marketing Representative
I applied for the job through a LinkedIn profile link and got a call for an interview in less than 24 hours. I went in for the interview the very next day. The interview was only about 10 minutes long with the manager. After they asked me 4 questions, I asked them a few questions and then I was done. They said I'd hear back by the end of the day. I was in and out quickly and never heard back. After looking into it more, I'm happy I didn't hear back.
- Why did you apply for this position?
- Can you tell me about your background?
- What are three books that represent you?
Sales and Marketing Manager
I checked out company reviews before my interview to make sure I wasn't walking into a door-to-door sales gig with no base pay. The job description was kinda vague, but they did mention 'entry-level position' and 'progressed through our management training program,' which made me suspicious. After talking to the interviewer, I found out it's all cold-calling, no salary, and totally commission-based, basically entry-level AT&T sales. Maybe they promote fast, but it's not a management job right off the bat.
- Tell me about your experience.
- What can you tell me about your resume?
Account Manager
The hiring process was pretty straightforward. After submitting a one-page application and resume, a hiring manager reviewed them and called candidates in based on arrival order. They explained the company and the interview process. Everyone applying for any role is considered for the commission-based Entry Level Account Manager position, regardless of prior experience. Promotions are based on merit, with managers having started in entry-level roles. The typical promotion timeline is 18 months. The interviewer was upfront, professional, and friendly. The company could streamline the process by reviewing applications before interviews. Initial interviews are brief phone calls (5-10 minutes) asking fundamental questions.
- Are you seeking full-time or part-time employment?
- Could you describe your most significant skills?
- Would you be interested in this role?
