Senior Full Stack Engineer
The interview process began with a recruiter call, followed by four rounds conducted over Zoom. The first two rounds were with engineering managers, focusing on technical skills. The third round involved a QA lead to assess testing knowledge and how I handle critical production bugs. The final round consisted of behavioral questions, including reasons for leaving my current job and other common inquiries. The overall interview was straightforward, lasting 1.5 hours on call. No offer was extended, suggesting they are quite selective about candidate responses.

So I went through three interviews. First, the recruiter reached out. Then I spoke with the hiring manager. Finally, I met with some of the team members I'd be working with. The recruiter was good at communicating at first, but after the last interviews, things went silent. They said they wanted to decide quickly, ideally the next day. The day after that, nothing. I emailed them the following day, still nothing. I waited a whole week and followed up again, and still heard nothing. It's been two weeks since they said they'd get back to me, and I haven't even gotten a simple email to let me know what's going on. I get that maybe for early stages, companies can't reply to everyone, but after three rounds, I thought there'd be a bit more professional courtesy. People I talked to were pretty open about the company's Glassdoor reviews and mentioned the culture was shifting. I was willing to believe them. But after this whole experience, I'm not so sure anything has really changed.

Backend Engineer
The interview process started well, peaked in the middle, and then really declined at the end. It began with an application, followed by a call with the Hiring Manager (HM). After that, there was a take-home case study where I focused on data integration via an API and designing the overall architecture. This was followed by a final round, which was an in-person interview for local candidates and a Zoom interview for those out of state. I had the Zoom interview, meeting a total of 6 people across 3 technical rounds and 1 cultural round. This involved reviewing the case study, discussing design, and some ETL. I felt I explained everything well, despite the possibility of curveball or awkward questions. There wasn't much time for candidate questions because the interviewers asked a lot of questions and follow-ups, making the technical rounds feel one-sided. I was confident and really excited about this role. The HM seemed equally enthusiastic, and I enjoyed our conversation. This company was a top choice for me. Unfortunately, two days later, I received a generic rejection email. I've requested individual feedback but haven't heard back yet. My suggestion to Uptake: Please be more considerate and avoid templated rejections, especially for candidates who reach the final round. Candidates invest significant effort, time, and sometimes take days off for this process. At the very least, provide some feedback on what went wrong.

Data Scientist
The interview process was pretty standard and relaxed, similar to what others have described. It started with a recruiter call where they asked usual screening questions like "tell me about yourself" and your ML experience. It's important to mention relevant ML buzzwords here. The recruiter also left time for my questions. Next, there was a technical interview with a data scientist. I had to dive deep into one of my past ML projects, explaining it step-by-step while they asked questions. It helps to be ready to discuss projects from your resume, though you get to pick which one. They also asked about my general experience and background. After that came a coding challenge, a classification task to be completed within 8 hours. The dataset was much larger than some earlier reports suggested, around 200,000 examples and 500 features, so a good computer and knowledge of dimensionality reduction techniques are important. The dataset was 'real-world' with missing and messy data, so data cleaning was also part of it. The classification task itself was fairly standard. Unfortunately, I didn't make it past this stage. Overall, the process felt standard and laid-back, and the people I met seemed nice.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your background?
- What kind of ML or data science experience do you have?
- What motivates you to join this company?
