Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Upstate Medical University.
Registered Nurse
First, the talent acquisition team reached out for a quick chat to go over my qualifications. Then, the hiring manager called me for a more official phone interview. About a week later, talent acquisition got back in touch to set up an in-person meeting with the hiring panel.
- Can you describe a stressful work situation and how you dealt with it?
Registered Nurse
You gotta be pushy to get noticed, the hiring office is super slow and might take weeks or months to respond after you apply. Showing up to a job fair and making a personal connection really helps! Once you actually get an interview, things are great and everyone is nice, but getting past the initial application is the hard part!
- How do you navigate working with cliques?
- What's your approach to dealing with conflict?
- How do you manage situations where someone has different ideas about a plan of care?
Registered Nurse
I applied online and was contacted by Nursing Recruitment. After that, I had interviews with several floors, some through job fairs and others as individual interviews. Nursing Recruitment sent me offers. They pushed me to take the first offer, but I didn't want to. The Nurse Recruiter seemed irritated, but eventually, I got the unit I really wanted after waiting a few more weeks and doing more interviews.
- Tell me about how you manage stressful clinical situations.
