The first conversation was to see if the role fit my career path. It turned out it didn't! The hiring manager gave me the rundown on the company. He said the job involved moving up through different roles, starting in outside sales and then going into Corporate Trainer. Since I have a background in corporate training, I got why you'd need to know sales first. We figured out that the sales focus wasn't what I wanted long-term, so we decided not to move forward. It was a good chat, though. He was really clear about the company and the job, and I liked that he was upfront. They seemed like cool people, and it would probably be a good place to work. I was a bit confused by the 'Consulting/Consultant' title though. It didn't feel like a typical consulting firm based on my experience, and the job wasn't what I'd usually call a Business/Management Consultant role.

The interview process was really easy and everyone was super nice, making me feel really comfortable. The interview itself was pretty straightforward and relaxed, lasting about 15 minutes. The first part with the CEO was basically to see if I'd be a good fit. Then, I moved to the second stage where I met up with a staff member for coffee. She gave me more details about the job and answered a lot of my questions, though she didn't have all the answers and didn't seem too bothered about finding them. It would have been helpful to know upfront that the role involved going door-to-door selling 1-year energy contracts on a 100% commission basis, as I only found out the specifics of the job at the end of the second interview. Everyone was great, but it just wasn't the right role for me.

I was nervous, but the owner was friendly, making me comfortable. It was quick and easy. Knowing it's a highly recruited office, I knew there'd be competition and few positions. They offered me a full-day job shadow to see what the position entails. Without it, I wouldn't have understood the opportunity. After 5 weeks, I feel it's important to review so others know this is a career, not a job. I learned more in 5 weeks than in 4 years of college. This career path is something I stumbled upon and will stick with. I suggest the underqualified or overqualified apply as the owner is looking for specific individuals to grow with.

I interviewed with the CEO of Uprooted Consulting. He asked me a couple of questions about my background and then spent the rest of the time telling me about the company and the role. He talked super fast and mostly talked about himself and his successes. He was really unprofessional and I got a weird vibe like it might be a pyramid scheme selling bad energy plans. I got offered another interview but I decided not to go because of some of the reviews I read about them.
