Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at UPMC.
Customer Service Representative
I had a zoom interview with two interviewers. They asked standard questions and many scenario-based questions, like how I would handle a difficult team member or customer. I felt I didn't get the job because they commented on me interviewing for a field I'm not currently in and mentioned they had other internal candidates.
- What is your approach to task prioritization on a daily basis?
Customer Service Representative
The interview was standard and conducted over video. The recruiter's questioning was intelligent, but it wasn't long enough to get to know me. She assumed I was a job hopper because I had listed contract or temp work on my resume, which was a complete error in judgment. I later heard on the radio that the job had been advertised two weeks prior to my application. She took a heading from my resume for a past role of mine, a real niche, and created a new role for UPMC. I dodged a bullet that didn't matter, but advertising an inflated pay rate is wrong, especially when they have a union. I had no idea. Run, HR is not about their employees or prospects! I was really, really disappointed, and I knew she asked more about that particular role than another role that was more aligned with the role I applied for with UPMC.
- Given your other experience, why are you seeking a customer service role?
Customer Service Representative
I applied online and a week later got a call to set up a phone interview for two days out. On the scheduled day, I didn't get a call, so I called them that night to let them know. The next morning, the interviewer called back apologizing, saying she got sick. We rescheduled for the next day. After the phone interview, I had to complete an assessment test two days later. Then, two more days passed, and I got a call for a face-to-face interview scheduled for about a week later. This final interview went really well; I was interviewed by four different people, one after another. There was another candidate there at the same time who was late. She was interviewed first for about 30 minutes, and mine lasted an hour. I got a job offer the following Monday. I'm currently finishing up the background check and a health assessment.
- Can you tell me about a situation where you had to juggle multiple tasks? How did you manage it, and what happened in the end?
