Software Engineer
So I interviewed for a software engineering role, and initially, they said it was mostly frontend with a bit of full-stack. But then, talking to the hiring manager, it turned out they were really looking for backend with a different tech stack. The manager did say I'd be a good fit if it was frontend though. I asked to reschedule after that because the role expectations changed. But they told me they were actually looking for someone more frontend and didn't want to interview me further. So there was a big disconnect between what was first told and what they actually wanted. It would be good if recruiters and hiring teams were on the same page. The interviewers were nice, and the process was fine, but it'd be better if they were clear about the role and tech stack from the start.
- In manager rounds, can you share details about your experience and your typical daily tasks, and also explain your motivations for seeking a new opportunity?
Software Engineer
Don’t bother interviewing with this company. Communication is lacking and there are no updates after interviews. Their process is ridiculously long, like a FAANG company's, but the salary is that of a low-paying service company. I did the first assessment, then a coding round. The third round had two interviewers and was scheduled for 1.5 hours but went over 2 hours. After that, it's been radio silence - no feedback, no response. It's weird because I've interviewed with top product companies with just two technical rounds and got competitive offers. More rounds don't guarantee better evaluation; sometimes it just means the hiring process is bad. Candidates put in a lot of time and effort. The minimum is proper communication and feedback, not ghosting. There are many companies that respect candidates' time, are transparent, and offer fair compensation. Don't assume five rounds means they're picking top talent, especially when the salary doesn't match.
- What are some standard questions?
- Can you solve a data structures and algorithms coding problem?
- Do you know basic Java?
Software Engineer
So, there were 5 rounds in total. The first round was a quick aptitude test with 45 questions in 15 minutes. Then there was an assessment round, which had three parts: the first part was about MySQL with 12 questions, the second was about HTML, CSS, and JS to handle forms and validate them, and the third part was ROR-based, asking to create an Action Mailer. After that, there was a Technical Round where they asked ROR questions, JS questions, and about Unit tests.
- What are the routes based questions?
- Can you explain about action mailer?
- How to handle form validation using html css js?
