The UpGuard interview process kicks off with a chat with a Talent Partner about your background and the gig. Then, you'll have a technical interview with the Hiring Manager to dive deeper into your skills and how you've handled things before. If you move on, you'll get a practical task to do within five days, and then likely chat about it. After that, there's a culture interview with future coworkers to see if you'd vibe well together. The last step is a sit-down with the CEO or another exec to check out your ambitions, character, and if you're a good fit overall, then they'll make an offer and run background checks.

So, first I talked to the recruiter, which was pretty good. Then I had this interview with the hiring manager, and it was kinda weird. They didn't seem to know much about the business and asked really basic questions. They were also kinda rude and didn't let me ask anything. After that, there was this task, but it wasn't very clear what I was supposed to do. During the review, they said my answers were too long, even though I explained everything. The other person on the panel didn't say anything the whole time. I was pretty surprised I didn't move forward, and I think maybe they aren't the best at picking people.

Applied through Lever and a few days later got a Zoom interview request. At the end of the interview, I was told they were looking for someone with 2+ years of experience. They said my resume looked good and I had a great cover letter, but if they had actually read my resume, they would have seen I didn't have 2 years of experience. I felt it was a waste of time to interview me if I wasn't qualified, especially during a pandemic. I was told I was scheduled for an interview for a position that hadn't even been approved yet. I would have preferred not to be contacted at all if I didn't meet the qualifications, or if they could have just been upfront and said they didn't like my answers. I get that it's a startup, but it's unprofessional to handle interviews this way.
