Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Unum.
Actuarial Intern
Had an HR interview which was pretty standard, the person was nice. There was also a strange online personality/skill test. I didn't get any updates after the HR chat, even though I had passed an SOA exam. Overall, it was an okay process.
- Describe a challenging situation you encountered in a group project and explain how you resolved it.
Actuarial Consultant
My interview for Actuarial Consultant at Unum went well initially, with the interviewers being engaging and professional. However, the follow-up has been poor. I've tried contacting them multiple times over the last 5-6 weeks via email and phone, but haven't heard anything back about my application status, feedback, or even just an update. It's been disappointing given how professional they were at first. I get that companies have different processes and timelines, but keeping candidates informed is really important. I hope Unum can get better at their follow-up to show they value the time candidates put in.
- When creating a pricing model for life insurance, what key elements should be taken into account?
Actuarial
It was a phone interview. We started by reviewing my resume and then transitioned into behavioral questions. The interview lasted about 40 to 45 minutes. The behavioral questions were quite tough, and even though I had prepared, I sometimes found myself struggling. I was asked for specific examples involving group partners not cooperating. I was asked for multiple examples from different group projects, and it felt like I didn't have enough experiences with uncooperative partners to draw from.
- Can you share an instance where you had to make a swift decision without having all the necessary information?
- Could you describe a situation involving a group partner's lack of cooperation?
- Tell me about a different group project where you encountered a similar challenge with a partner.
