The University of Virginia has this habit of posting jobs they don't really plan on filling. It's even worse because the staff spend a lot of time interviewing people for these fake jobs, wasting everyone's time. I talked to Dr. Weaver about a postdoc position. He said that even though they advertised for several roles like Scientist and Postgraduate Researcher in his new lab, he was only going to hire for one. This makes me wonder about how UVA hires, since they let professors trick job seekers with non-existent openings. It's pretty bad that a place like UVA would do this and lead on good candidates.

I thought the interview was pretty cool and kept me interested. It gave me good info and helped me get a better idea about what we were talking about. I liked being able to chat about what I've done and what I'm good at with the people interviewing me, and it was nice to find out more about the company and what they care about. Overall, the interview felt good and taught me a lot, making me feel pumped about maybe joining the team.

It was a bit referral based for an undergrad research shadowing role. The interviewing process wasn’t really a standard interview, but more like visited with a tailored program and was recommended or advised on who to contact.
