It was a friendly chat and spirits were high. The questions were fairly standard, but we had a good back and forth. I wasn't told beforehand what to talk about. People were nice though, and they seemed to know what they were after and were keen to help me discuss it.

The interview was pretty standard, and honestly, I didn't find it super helpful. They were after someone with specific experience in steel microstructure and simulations, which wasn't a perfect match for my background. Because of this, I got the impression it might not be the ideal role for my abilities and history.

After I sent in my application (CV & cover letter), I got an interview invitation within two weeks. The first interview happened about ten days after they sent the first email. The interview process has two stages. The first stage was about my motivations and ambitions, and the second was a presentation of my thesis online to my future committee. I only did the first stage. It was a non-technical interview, so I didn't need to prep any recent publications, as I was told. The interview took about 45 minutes, but I also asked questions, so I think they expected it to be about 30-35 minutes. In the first part, they focused on questions about my CV and cover letter, and the other questions were pretty standard ones you'd expect. The interviewer was punctual, really friendly, and seemed interested in my ambitions to see if I'd fit the team. The questions were good and let me think about my reasons.

I applied online and then got invited for an in-person interview. After that, I was offered the position and accepted! The interview involved me presenting my background and giving a detailed overview of my past projects, along with my thoughts on the open position. It was an interactive presentation where the interviewers could ask specific questions about each project. I made sure to highlight how my previous work aligns with the requirements of this role.
