Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University of Surrey.
PhD Student
The interview process was quite straightforward. I was asked to prepare a presentation. Although I wasn't selected due to lacking more experience, the interviewers were encouraging and expressed their gratitude for my participation.
- What motivates your pursuit of a PhD?
PhD Student
It was a two-part interview process. The first interview was at the university, and the second, more formal interview, was with the sponsor. Since I already knew the university staff, that interview was more about the sponsor assessing my suitability for the project.
- Tell me about your teamwork.
- What are your thoughts on teamwork?
- Can you demonstrate your ability to work in a team?
PhD Student
They made me feel really comfortable. The interviewer was friendly and showed me around the labs, introducing me to the other staff. The interview itself was straightforward, more like a conversation, and I didn't feel pressured at all.
- Can you discuss your past experiences as detailed in your CV?
