Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University of Strathclyde.
PhD Student
Applied for the PhD project, and if accepted, I met with the Heads of Department, got a university tour, and met potential supervisors. There was only one interview round, and then they emailed me the decision.
- Could you describe your research and educational background and how it would help you complete this PhD?
PhD Student
Questions were mainly focused on my specific research area and my ability to conduct qualitative research. Both a person from a joint venture and my primary supervisor were present. Interestingly, there were no questions about my future career plans.
- Would you be okay with working independently?
PhD Student
I applied online and got an interview invite via email. Since I was abroad, the interview was on Skype. I had to give a 15-minute presentation on my research, followed by a panel discussion about my past work, skills, and future goals. We also discussed my motivation for applying and why I'm a good fit. A couple of days later, I got a job offer over the phone.
- Why did you decide to apply for this position?
