Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University of South Florida.
Business Specialist
It was a pretty typical set of questions, but honestly, a lot of them didn't seem to relate to the actual job and felt more like generic HR stuff. Very corporate vibe.
- How do you handle juggling various deadlines and maintain organization?
Administrative Specialist
I interviewed with 4 people for the first in-person interview. It turns out one of the interviewers was the current employee who got promoted. I thought that was super unprofessional. USF, being a public university, has to post jobs for 10 days and interview at least 3 outside candidates even though they usually hire internally. This was my fourth time being one of those 3 outside candidates. In one interview, they had this long 5-page list of really standard questions. It was brutal, and after the hour-long interview, I found out it didn't even matter because they already had their preferred internal candidate. I'm not sure if I got an offer or not, but I'm not holding my breath.
- What are your strategies for managing workplace conflict?
Administrative Specialist
About five weeks after I applied, I got a call to schedule a phone interview. After that, I was invited for an in-person interview which lasted about 2 hours. The first hour was with my potential supervisor where we discussed the job responsibilities, benefits, and took a tour. Then, I met with department staff for 30 minutes and faculty representatives for another 30 minutes. Even though I didn't get the job, it was a good experience.
