I saw the PhD position advertised on FindaPhD.com, and it was located in the same city as my Master's degree. I'd also heard good feedback about the supervisor and the project itself was interesting to me. After an initial interview with the project supervisor, I was put forward as a candidate for the fellowship. The next step involved presenting some of my previous scientific research, answering questions from a panel of academics, and discussing my motivations for pursuing this specific project. Each panel member recorded a score after the interview. Despite feeling very nervous, I was successful in getting accepted. I'd heard that the acceptance rate for candidates put forward for the panel review was around 1 in 3.
