The interview process started off great, feeling clear. The initial recruiter screening went well. Then, I had an hour-long interview with the hiring team, where the role's duties turned out to be quite different from what the recruiter and job description stated. One interviewer seemed disengaged, checking emails, and I had to really push to keep the conversation flowing. Despite this, I maintained professionalism. The team mentioned they'd share next steps within a week. I followed up after that week, remembering the recruiter's earlier openness to contact and offers to share other opportunities. Still no response, not even after a second follow-up. I only found out about the status change over a month later via the job portal.

When talking about immigration status and whether you need sponsorship, especially if you're trying to live and work in a different country, these questions come up a lot and are pretty important. If you're asking someone about their green card, it's usually good to ask in a nice way, maybe like 'do they have permanent residency?' or 'are they a lawful permanent resident?'. And if you're talking about sponsorship for something like CPT (Curricular Practical Training), you might ask if they need sponsorship for their work or study visa. People usually ask these questions carefully, knowing that immigration stuff can be tricky.

I interviewed with UMKC in December for Assistant Professor in Graphic Design. The overall experience was great except for the long tiring campus interview. I was told to be on campus at 8 am and was interviewing, meeting with faculty for the entire day. I was told that at the end of the campus visit, around 4 pm, will be a meeting with the Dean and which is going to be a casual conversation. I was caught off-guard when at the end of the campus visit, the Dean had a set of questions written for me and wanted me to explain to her my research plan apart from the one hour Research presentation I gave. I was tired and was not expecting this to be another interview as this was towards the very end of the day so I didn't engage in the conversation. Fast forward to February, I was asked to submit my official transcripts and so I did. Never heard from them until March and that's when I accept another position and withdrew my application. PS: I have not been reimbursed for my campus visit and it has been 4 months since my visit.

I interviewed for an Assistant Teaching Professor job in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program. Everyone was nice during the interview, but they seriously lacked follow-up. For this kind of job, it shows a lack of professionalism and organization, which is ironic since the program is supposed to teach students these things. The only update I got was that they were still deciding and would let me know. It's been five months, and even after I followed up by phone and email, I still haven't heard back about the job status. This program definitely needs to improve its own standards.
