Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University of Maryland Medical Center.
Registered Nurse
It was a really good interview, felt comfortable and professional. They asked around 15 questions, pretty standard ones. Nothing too deep, mostly about my availability and stuff.
- What makes you want to join UMMS or this specific unit?
- Can you share an experience dealing with a challenging patient?
- Could you describe your strengths and weaknesses?
Registered Nurse
I went to a hiring event that I signed up for a few weeks before. When I got there, they asked me what department I was interested in, even though I already put that on the signup. After I sat down, they had me follow a manager for an interview. When we got to the unit, I had to ask what it was, and it wasn't even close to what I wanted. After I interviewed for a department I didn't care about, I talked to the recruiter. She said the managers weren't told about the event.
- Can you tell me about your strengths?
- What do you consider your weaknesses?
- What makes you want to work on this specific unit?
Registered Nurse
First I had a phone chat with the nurse recruiter. Then, I did a share day where I shadowed one of the nurses on the unit. After that, I had an interview with the nurse manager for the unit.
- How long does it take you to travel from home?
