I put in my application online about 10 days ago and then got a request for a phone interview, which I agreed to. I used their AI scheduler to set up the interview and the person called me right on time. He was nice enough, but it quickly became clear he didn't really know much about the job and was just reading questions. It felt more like talking to a student working part-time than someone from HR. He didn't seem very enthusiastic about the job or the university, just kind of went through the motions. So, after about 30 minutes of me explaining my experience and how much I like working with students, I got the standard rejection email in under a day. I've noticed that HR recruiters tend to stick with people like them and aren't very open to candidates who don't fit their usual mold. At the University of Maryland, HR doesn't seem to value diversity or different experiences; it's all about fitting in. They usually already have someone in mind and don't look much further, no matter how qualified someone is.

The interview process can vary depending on the company and role, but it typically follows a series of steps designed to evaluate a candidate’s skills, experience, and cultural fit. Here's a general outline of the process: 1. Application and Screening Application: The process begins when you submit your resume or application online, often through a company’s career page or a job board. Screening: A recruiter or hiring manager reviews your application to determine if your qualifications match the role. If they are interested, they will reach out to schedule an initial interview, often a phone or video interview.

The HR and interview process was extremely unprofessional. I had two interviews: I passed the phone screen and then participated in a panel interview with scripted questions. Despite answering thoroughly, the hiring manager displayed clear bias and a lack of interest, which felt rooted in racial or cultural prejudices. It’s been over 10 weeks with no response, leaving me feeling dismissed and disrespected. Regardless of the outcome, I would not accept an offer, and I do not recommend this institution to anyone.

Behavioral Presentation

I had an interview with an academic person and an admin person about a month after applying. The interview went really well. They asked about my teaching philosophy and some specific situations. I also gave a short presentation about UMGC and its students. The academic interviewer seemed really interested and said I should expect an offer. HR contacted me later with positive feedback, but no details on the contract or pay. They then asked me to get my foreign credentials evaluated, which I'd have to pay for. I declined because I don't want to pay for that without knowing the offer details or if I even get the job.
