The interview process felt like a moderate challenge and was nicely put together. I also did a short assessment test which was explained well and seemed to be a good fit for the job. The people interviewing me were very professional and made me feel welcome and comfortable the whole time. The whole thing took about an hour, and it felt like a good use of time and was run smoothly.

The interview for the Research Assistant position at the University of Manchester was structured yet friendly. It started with introductions from the panel (PI and research team) who then explained the research project. The first part focused on my prior research experience, asking about my dissertation and relevant projects, and how my skills with specific research methods/software could contribute. They also asked how I manage research challenges like data management, deadlines, and collaboration. Then came technical questions about approaching research challenges for their project, including interpreting data and suggesting analysis methods to show problem-solving and statistical knowledge. The behavioral part asked about teamwork and overcoming research difficulties, like unexpected results or design adjustments. Finally, I asked about the role's daily tasks and the project's long-term goals, and their answers confirmed a supportive environment with growth opportunities. Overall, it was thorough but engaging, with a natural flow between technical and personal discussions.

I had an informal chat with three of the researchers, it lasted about half an hour. They asked me some questions about an article I had to read before. Afterwards, they offered to show me around the facilities.
