I was really excited about applying for this job, and then very excited when I heard back that they wanted to interview me because I felt like the specific job description was written for me. The interview invitation was not for a face to face video interview, though, and it was for a self video interview through HireVue. I had never done a self interview and I was super nervous and practiced a lot. I know I did well, though, I found interviewing myself, while looking at a screen of myself, to be super impersonal and a bit degrading. I'm new to these AI interview processes and I was trying to embrace it the best I could, but I just felt so silly and down afterwards. It was strange to me that if you liked me enough to interview me, why don't you call me, or do a Zoom interview face to face? I was later informed that I was not moving forward to a face to face interview, but if one of the people they do interview does not work out, then they'd interview me, which I found to be rude. I think they used this self video interview because they already had an internal candidate, and since they are bound by state law as a public university to interview at least 3 other people, they use this terrible HireVue, to avoid the uncomfortableness of having to look and talk to people they don't intend on ever hiring. It was a huge turn off, and I will never accept one of these AI initial interviews going forward. It says a lot about a company when they don't want to actually look at your face or hear your voice. No, thank you.

My interview experience with CU Boulder was disappointing and unprofessional. It started with a HireVue AI recording and an excessive demand for references. Even though I never met or spoke to the team, I was flown out for a final interview. I faced conflicting interview times, and the team seemed disinterested, asking some questions that the AI recording already covered. The hiring manager marked up my resume and cover letter like grading a paper and often lost her train of thought. She also complained about the previous person in the role for something that could have been fixed with simple communication. It seemed like they were just going through the motions because they already had someone in mind. This was after I took a day off work to travel over 8 hours for the interview. After the interview, I got no reply from the hiring manager to my thank-you note and had to chase them up over two weeks later to find out from HR that I didn't get the job. If this is how they treat candidates, I'm glad I don't have to work there.

First I had to do a HireVue recording which was stressful and impersonal. Then, a week later, I had a Zoom interview with the team. I also had to give 5 references who all had to complete a survey about my skills, which I thought was a pain. The interview went okay, and I followed up the next week but never heard back. After three weeks, I got a generic rejection email. The Zoom interview was alright, but the rest of the experience was bad. I'm not interested in applying for other jobs there.

So after I applied, I had to do this recorded interview on HireVue. There were five questions where I had three minutes each to answer, and then one question that was written, no time limit. The written one had me respond to a student's email. They also asked for five references, and those people got a skills review sent to them. The second interview, which was the last one, was over Zoom. It had two parts: first, I talked with some other first-year advisors, and then I met with the hiring committee. For this part, they gave me a sample student email beforehand and I had to prep my response. Both of those Zoom parts were about 45 minutes.
