I reached out to the Principal Investigator directly to express my interest in joining their lab. During our conversation, they asked about my background in the field and my understanding of the lab's existing publications. To prepare, I made sure to thoroughly read their most recent papers and familiarize myself with the primary technologies they utilize.

They gave me a call to talk about the job before setting up an interview. I spoke with the head doctor, the nurse manager, and one of the other nurses. Everyone was really nice and direct. They really wanted to get to know me as a person, and didn't ask pointless stuff. It was a good experience, which doesn't happen often in nursing.

Behavioral Group Presentation Technical

The interview process for this job, which is typical for higher education, included a phone screen, a group panel interview, a presentation, and another interview. Although I was initially contacted with excitement about my application as a Queer, BIPOC, first-generation low-income recent college grad, they withdrew my application for this role when I declined to pursue a different position at the University. I never heard back to confirm my withdrawal from this role, which made the initial enthusiasm feel insincere. The emotional toll on a candidate with my intersecting identities is quite ironic.
