First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at UnitedHealth Group.
Project Manager
First, I had to do a recorded video interview where I answered questions with short answers. They were mostly related to situations I'd been in at work and how I handled them. After the AI passed the video recording, the recruiter set up a virtual interview with another project manager and the supervisor. The questions were similar to the recorded interview, but it just allowed for some back and forth between the parties. A few days after that, I received a call with a job offer.
- Tell me about your experience with project management tools.
Project Manager
Since I was referred internally, the process was pretty smooth. First, a recruiter did a screening call. Then I had a one-on-one with the hiring manager. After that, we had a group interview with some peers where we went through a series of questions. Finally, I met with the hiring manager's boss. The hiring manager and recruiter were great at communicating throughout. I felt it was a smooth process, though I think that can depend on the specific hiring manager. When they gave me the offer, I did negotiate. They initially low-balled me, but I ended up getting the salary I wanted.
- Can you share an experience of failure and how you dealt with it?
- Tell me about yourself.
- What is your perspective on company culture?
Project Manager
UHG posts jobs they don't intend to fill with outside candidates, and they are notorious for this. Cultural norm is 'Minnesota Nice,' which is really passive-aggressive. OPTUM is their profitable division and more responsive, but there's a middle-management logjam. HQ isn't diverse or fast; HR delays interview cycles for weeks, so have a backup. UHG is smug and political and rarely pays for relocation below Director level. Their MO is to cancel budgeted positions if they don't like candidates or hire internal candidates over externals.
- Can you confirm your work experience and education?
- Tell me about a time you achieved a positive ROI or project success.
- Describe your approach to stakeholder management.
