Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at UnitedHealth Group.

The interview process included a HireVue interview, a recruiter screening, an interview with the hiring manager, and an interview with team members. The interview was very general and asked easy behavioral questions, but it took two months to receive a rejection.

Applied online, the whole thing took 7 weeks. First, they asked me to self-identify. Then, a few days later, a recruiter called to set up an initial chat with the hiring manager. That meeting was super casual and informal, happening just a few days after. After that, silence from UHG. I tried contacting the recruiter multiple times over the next 4 weeks. Finally, a month after talking to the hiring manager, I got an automated email from 'Talent Acquisition' saying I was still being considered and thanking me for my patience. I'd been checking my candidate portal regularly, and my status was stuck on 'Under consideration; additional interviews scheduled' the whole time. About 10 days after that auto-email, my status changed to 'application reviewed; interview to be scheduled' on a Friday. Then, Monday morning, another automated email from 'Talent Acquisition' stated the job was no longer available, thanking me for my time. Honestly, the WORST candidate experience ever. Their website claims they take recruitment seriously and care about candidates, but this was super disorganized and lacked any empathy. Definitely NOT applying to more jobs here.

After applying, I got an email to do a digital interview. It was a new thing for me, but they had a practice round which I recommend. A week later, the recruiter said the Hiring Manager would reach out. Since it's a remote job, all interviews were by phone. First, I talked to the hiring manager. Then, he set up three more interviews for me with his boss and two of his peers. One of these was a WebEx call where I had to present some of my work. The whole process moved fast, and they were flexible with scheduling. Right after my last interview, the hiring manager called and said they'd offer me the job. It took about two weeks to get the written offer, which felt a bit long, but they kept me updated whenever I asked. This made me feel good about the process, and it seemed like just a system delay. Overall, a great experience so far!
