First, there was a phone screen with recruiting. They asked about my skills and if I was a good fit, and told me about UWM's hiring process and culture (like their people promise). The next interview was in person at the Pontiac office. It started with the recruiter giving a tour of the building and its facilities. Then, I met with three people from the team: the hiring manager and two co-workers. I had to give a presentation about a project from my portfolio. The rest of the time was for regular interview questions and getting to know each other. It wasn't too hard, and there weren't any tricky questions. Everyone was nice and seemed interested.

I feel like this company uses candidate outreach as practice for their summer interns. I received a call from an inexperienced student intern whose interview questions were entirely based on the job description. It was obvious he was just reading it and checking if I matched the listed qualifications, which I do. He was actually more nervous than I was. Later, I discovered that the interviewer who emailed me to schedule the interview was just a student participating in a summer training program. I found this out by connecting with him on LinkedIn. That explained a lot. I genuinely applied for this job, but I’m not here to be part of a company’s intern training process. If you’re not seriously considering candidate for the position, just send a rejection. Please don’t waste candidates’ time like this.

The interview process was pretty standard. I had a few phone calls, then two in-person interviews. In the end, they decided I didn't have enough experience. An external recruiting company helped me find this opportunity.
