First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee.
VP of Asset Development
I interviewed for the VP of Asset Development job. The recruiting lead seemed unprepared. The interview was supposed to be 45 minutes, but she started by asking if I had questions, without introducing herself, the company, the team, or the role. She didn't explain the scope, who I'd report to, or how success is measured. When I asked about the responsibilities, she couldn't explain them well. A week later, she called to say I wasn't moving forward, and again started by asking if I had questions, which was an odd way to deliver bad news. The whole process felt disorganized and lacked substance, which I felt reflected poorly on USOPC.
No confirmed questions were included in this interview report.
Data Engineer
Got an email from the recruiter about a take home project, had a week to do it. Everything was via email. Got one feedback asking to resend the code in .txt format since their IT systems couldn't take .py files. After 2 weeks of chasing, got a rejection email. I spent over 4 days on it while working full-time. My advice to future candidates is to wait until the very end, after meeting the team and the hiring manager, and feeling like you're a cultural fit, before agreeing to the take home assignment. You might end up doing free work with no guarantee of an offer.
- Could you please resend the code in .txt format?
- Scrape data from a website as a take home assignment.
Director of Audit
I went through four rounds of interviews over two weeks with different staff and management. The process felt disorganized, with poor communication between interviewers and HR. Many questions were repeated across interviews. Despite the perceived prestige of Team USA, they claimed to have many good candidates, but I suspect this wasn't entirely true given their nonprofit status and below-market pay. After the final interview, the hiring manager promised a decision within a week. However, I received no communication for four weeks. Subsequent follow-ups at five and seven weeks were also ignored, until finally an email stated they were not moving forward with my application. This lengthy and uncommunicative process, followed by ghosting and a dismissive final email, suggests a dysfunctional and unprofessional team. Expect a long, difficult interview process with significant ghosting afterwards.
- Can you share an experience where you managed a challenging individual?
Intern
I submitted my online application with my resume and cover letter. I also reached out to a few people I knew at the company. The hiring manager contacted me to set up a 1-hour phone interview, which included at least one other person. It seems like most interviews there are panel-style. They did reference checks and I got the job offer about 1-2 weeks after the interview.
- In a given scenario "x", how would you approach task "y"?
- If you were to consult a sports governing body on their strategic planning, what would your facilitation steps be and how would you present the final deliverable?
