It was an on campus opportunity. The first round was resume shortlisting. The second round was an online assessment that included coding, reasoning, and CSE related questions. The third round happened in the company's office and consisted of SQL queries, a case study, and resume discussion. The fourth round involved project discussions.

Behavioral Technical Case

I applied for the internship in February 2018 and had my first round video interview online a week later. It had basic background questions like 'tell me about yourself' and 'have you ever handle large data set before'. It also included 1-2 case questions: 1. how would you calculate profit from company ticket sales? 2. If your group wants to estimate customer interest in a marketing campaign using models, what factors are important for your prediction models? After over 8 weeks, I had another round phone interview today with an HR from United Airlines. Mostly behavioral and background questions. She also asked easy questions about SQL, Tableau, etc. Plus, she asked about my interests in machine learning, analytics, visualization, and optimization for the e-commerce department. Make sure you're very familiar with your past projects and how you solved problems. Finally, there were simple case questions like how to approach a problem, what data to learn for customer segmentation, or improving e-commerce revenue. The HR was very nice and it was a great talk learning about the department. Still waiting for responses but hope this helps.

The hiring process started off pretty fast, though I noticed this role had been open for a while. They brought me in for an interview but I never got any follow-up from United. It's been months and the job is still up on their site, which makes me think they're either searching for a unicorn or it's not a real opening.

  • Could you tell me a bit about your background?
  • Can you share an instance where you encountered a difficulty in data analysis and how you managed it?
  • What steps do you take to make sure your data is accurate and reliable?
