Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Unit4.
Project Manager
The recruiting team was good and proactive. They laid out the steps which seemed very long and would take a lot of candidate time. The interview with the hiring manager was okay, but she wasn't a great first impression for the company. I left the interview not wanting to work for this manager, and reviews confirmed this. The company felt very no-nonsense. Project management needs people with good people skills who enjoy their work. This manager seemed mechanical, and I felt reporting to her would be a drag, not because of the work, but her personality. PM is about people, not machines. Also, the pay for this senior role was about $50k less than similar jobs. With mechanical managers and bad pay, why would anyone want to work here? I decided not to move forward.
- Can you share examples of your past work that showed your project management skills?
Project Manager
I had an initial phone chat with the hiring manager and HR Manager, both based in Victoria, Canada. A few weeks later, I had an in-person interview at their Irving, TX office. They gave me some 'homework' - I had to prepare a presentation about project management topics and bring examples of project plans and documentation. The interview itself involved the hiring manager, HR manager, and two other managers. We had a good discussion. Even though the presentation was a lot of work, I think it's super important for this customer-facing role.
- How do you manage to satisfy your clients' expectations?
Project Manager
I applied with my CV through a referral and it took a while to hear back. The first interview was a phone call, which was quite relaxed and informal, focusing on my skills and work history. After that, I had a face-to-face meeting with the hiring manager and another Project Manager. This interview involved a presentation I had prepared and some questions about my competencies. The overall vibe was very friendly.
