First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Union Square Advisors LLC.
Summer Analyst
The people were really nice. It was a good mix of tactical and behavioral questions. I liked the way the company did the interviews. I did this interview over Zoom in August.
- Tell me about your experience in the finance industry.
Investment Banking Analyst
Applied through college career board. Waited a week before hearing back from a recruiter. Scheduled a phone interview with an analyst before being sent to super day in SF. The first round analyst seemed really uninterested in what I had to say, questions seemed to be straight out of the book with no real variation and did not build off of my responses. It was fairly technical.
- Can you explain a Discounted Cash Flow (DCF)?
- Regarding the discount factor, what do you use and how is it calculated?
- Could you state the equation for the Cost of Equity?
Summer Associate
I applied through my school's career services and then got a call from a recruiter. They set up my first phone interviews. Apparently, this is the first year they are hiring summer associates, as they used to only hire summer analysts. I had two 30-minute phone interviews with associates, one in SF and one in NY. The questions were a mix of fit and technical.
- Can you explain a Discounted Cash Flow (DCF)?
- How would you walk me through a Leveraged Buyout (LBO)?
- What are the typical multiples for SaaS companies?
Intern
The interview process moved along quickly. It involved a few rounds that included both in-person and phone call interviews. The focus was on typical investment banking technical questions. They also asked about my resume background and experience in valuation and modeling.
- Tell me about your background and experience with valuation and modeling.
