First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Union Bank.
Senior Software Engineer
The whole interview process took about 4 weeks. A staffing company submitted my profile. It started with a telephonic round, and the second one followed within a week. Then, after 3-4 weeks and multiple follow-ups, there was a face-to-face interview. For context, this was for Union Bank NA in downtown LA. They had two phone interviews. After the second one, they said they'd get back to me. It took them 3-4 weeks and several queries from the staffing agency before they scheduled a full-day interview at their office, lasting from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. After that entire day of interviewing, they never responded with a decision. I was interviewed by people from junior developers up to a Vice President, a total of 6 rounds. The questions were mostly the same each time, with slight variations depending on the interviewer's role. This lack of communication is really unprofessional. Since I was contracting, I didn't work that day and ended up losing a day's pay because of their non-response. It's frustrating when companies don't provide feedback, even a 'no' with a reason would be better. It feels like a waste of time. Also, they don't cover parking, so I had to pay $40 to park at their building, plus lunch expenses, easily costing over $500 and a full day for nothing. Consider this before applying.
- Can you write a program to generate the Fibonacci series?
- How would you write a SQL query to retrieve data where the value in a specific column is greater than the average of that column?
Software Engineer
First, there was a 15-minute phone call, then an hour-long in-person meeting. In the in-person part, managers talked about my background and what I've done, then shared their expectations. After that, I met with two managers and a senior developer for another in-person interview where they asked Java questions, really wanting to know what I know and what I could contribute.
- General JAVA questions.
- My ex boss hired me and she was a great interviewer.
Software Developer
I had a phone interview first, then a technical round with a coding session. The programming questions were pretty basic and covered stacks, queues, linked lists, strings, and arrays. The last round was with HR and consisted of simple behavioral questions. The whole process wrapped up in about two to three weeks.
- Could you answer some basic Java questions?
- What about Spring?
- And Rest?
