It was a pretty standard hiring process. First, a phone screen with HR, then a one-on-one with the hiring manager, and lastly, an interview to meet the team. The process itself was quite slow, but the recruiter I was working with did a great job of keeping me in the loop. There weren't any surprises during the interviews. I ended up with a really good impression of both the recruiter and my potential future colleagues.

It was a contract-to-hire role that had 5 phone interviews initially, then 2 in-person interviews, and a final phone interview over 3 weeks. The hiring manager liked me after the in-person interviews and said the final phone interview would likely seal the deal and asked about my start date. That last phone interview was very direct with questions and no back-and-forth. I was asked for a writing sample and references, which I provided. Then, there was a week of stalling tactics like 'we're reviewing your writing sample,' 'references are fine,' and 'manager is out of town but you're still in the running.' I suspected they were waiting on another candidate. The next week, I found out the contract went to someone else. I was expecting better professionalism from the bank.

I had a phone interview since I was studying abroad. My interviewer didn't seem to have reviewed my resume beforehand and was looking for things to ask. There was a lot of quiet time where he was just reading through my resume, which was very awkward.
