Average interview. I am extremely disappointed by how this interview process was handled. Two interviews were cancelled at the very last minute, resulting in significant wasted time and effort. This reflects poorly on the company’s professionalism. I hope the hiring team reviews and improves their process to avoid causing such frustration for future candidates.

Technical Presentation Behavioral

The interview process included a phone screen and a technical/presentation round. It moved quickly, and I initially had a good impression. Since it was my first time doing a technical assessment and presentation, I likely didn't perform my best. I was given two days to complete the technical task and prepare slides to present my findings and data interpretation. The interviewer asked about financial and operational aspects of the data. I found this somewhat challenging given my background in wet lab work and lack of experience in that specific area. They did mention they were looking for candidates wanting to transition from wet lab roles, so I'm unclear on their expectations beyond analytical skills and presentation ability. After I struggled with those questions, I felt rushed, and my presentation time was cut short because the interviewer had a prior commitment, even though our interview was scheduled for 30 minutes. They ended the interview 20 minutes in. I followed up twice for an update on my application and was ignored after investing considerable effort.

It was a straightforward interview. I started with a call with the cofounder, and then we moved to the first round. The first round had three questions: two coding questions and one SQL question. I wasn't great at SQL at the time but they still moved me forward. After that, I had a take-home assessment that tested my frontend and UX design skills. The final round was an onsite where we mostly talked and did behavioral questions.

Behavioral Presentation Technical

I had 2 phone calls, one with a co-founder and one with the Hiring Manager. These calls were straightforward and mainly conversational, with questions about my previous experience. For the final round, I was flown out to New York and had to prepare 3 presentations to demonstrate my previous experience upselling, perform a demo of software of my choice, and pitch the Uncountable product using a deck that was provided to me. The interview prompts were challenging yet fair and I was excited to meet the team. Once in the interview, it was a very intense environment, and I (personally) did not feel comfortable. Throughout the presentations, I was asked ~30 questions by the 6 people in the room. One of the founders didn't look up from his computer once for the whole 2 hours and would ask questions without looking up. I'm sure that the blunt and intense approach that was taken was meant to test my ability to perform under pressure. To me, however, it felt cold, unwelcoming, and not the type of leadership I would want to work for. I would advise candidates to be prepared accordingly. I was informed over email that I wouldn't be getting an offer. In my opinion, a phone call would have been the more professional and respectful way to deliver this information given the significant time investment I made into this process.
