Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Unacademy.
Senior Category Manager
This has been the worst interview process in my 10 years of experience. The professionalism was lacking, and they kept bragging about working hard. Interview dates and times weren't coordinated, I had to follow up for confirmations as they didn't send any emails or messages, showing no value for my time. The interview itself involved a team from mid-management to senior leadership who were busy boasting about being a startup. The 4 panelists seemed to want to put me down and expected me to know everything about the company before even being hired. I've worked in 5 organizations, big and small, but never encountered such prejudiced and negative people focused only on talking about themselves. After 2 weeks with no update, the feedback was they can't train someone because they are a startup. It's frustrating, and I feel my 10 years of experience in education was treated poorly.
- The interviewers mostly talked about their own achievements and experiences.
- They seemed to expect me to have an in-depth knowledge of the company without being an employee.
- They also bragged about their work ethic and the company's status as a startup.
Senior Category Manager
The interview process in Unacademy Bangalore was the worst in my 10 years of experience. There was no clarity on interview dates and times, and I had to reach out to them every time, which felt unprofessional for a startup. During the interviews, the 4 panelists mostly bragged about themselves and the company. They mentioned that work is done haphazardly without product or process training, implying the company will always remain a startup. They also expected me to know the ins and outs of the organization without being hired, showing no respect for my 10 years of experience. I felt insulted, especially since they boasted about their efficient team handling everything, yet questioned my lack of tech experience.
- Useless questions, just bragging about themselves
Category Manager
Had a total of 4 discussion rounds, mostly focusing on my past business development experience and general IQ. I was really grilled on stakeholder management and sales skills. The whole thing wrapped up in one day, and they let me know the result the very next day, including salary negotiation and the offer letter.
- Can you share your previous work experiences with me?
- Tell me about your background in business development.
- What are your general IQ capabilities?
