About two weeks after applying online, I got an email from a staff member on the team saying I'd been selected to interview. We arranged a phone interview for a few days later. The interviewer seemed bored and talked about how selective the process was, implying I was lucky. She said she'd let me know if I was selected within two weeks. I followed up with some requested documents and a thank you. After two weeks, I sent a polite follow-up and got no response. It's strange for an organization committed to women to not seem committed to potential female employees.

So basically at UN Women, if you get an interview, you've pretty much got the internship. This was true for me. I met with two people from the Arab States team for coffee. We talked a bit about the internship, and they didn't ask any hard questions. After about 15-20 minutes, they said they wanted me on board and took me to meet the head of the team. The main idea is that the application has to show you're qualified, and the interview is to check if you're a good personal fit. Funnily enough, I didn't even apply to the Arab States team; my application was for the Africa team. They had already picked someone but liked my application, so they passed it to the Arab States team because they noticed I'd done a school project on Palestine. So, partly, the interview was to see if I'd be interested in working with their team instead. I heard back about the interview about 2 months after applying.

It was a competence-based interview with 3-4 people, mostly programme managers and one programme assistant. It lasted about 35-40 minutes. They were very kind and shared practical info like notice time, salary, and the office vibe.
