First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at UMB Financial Corporation.
Credit Analyst
This was the longest and worst interview process I've ever experienced. I applied on November 17th, and my first interview wasn't until Christmas Eve. I didn't hear back until the third week of January. It felt really unprofessional, like they weren't serious about filling the Credit Analyst role, especially since it's still posted even after I was told they found someone. It was a waste of my time. Also, one of the interview times I had scheduled, the interviewer didn't even show up.
- What makes you interested in UMB and specifically in a credit analysis role?
- Can you explain your interest in credit analysis?
Senior Information Security Risk Analyst
The interview process was quick and straightforward. The recruiter was great to work with. There were no surprises. An on-site interview is required for hybrid positions, as the role needs you to be in the office 3 days a week, unless it's a fully remote position.
- Can you discuss your resume qualifications?
- What can you tell me about your previous work?
Human Resources Business Partner
The interview process included a phone screen where they asked about my background and salary expectations. After that, I had an in-person panel interview with the hiring manager and a direct report, followed by a final interview with the department director. My first impression of the building was that it was old and not well-maintained. The receptionist in the waiting room didn't really acknowledge me. I could overhear a group of new hires being briefed in the lobby, and the current employees were unprofessional with them. For example, one new hire was told their manager didn't want to come greet them and they'd have to find his desk themselves. During the interview with the hiring manager and direct report, the hiring manager was nice and professional. However, the direct report seemed moody and annoyed to be there. The hiring manager left the room at one point, and the direct report started talking about her job, calling her client groups 'dysfunctional families,' especially her non-exempt employees.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your identity?
- Could you describe your background and skills?
- Can you share some examples of challenging conversations or experiences you've had?
Client Relationship Manager
I applied for the Client Relationship Manager role online and got an automated email to do an online assessment. A few days later, I heard from UMB to set up a phone screen with a recruiter. The recruiter called at the scheduled time and went straight into questions about my background and salary expectations, and if I had experience with cold calling. I mentioned the job description didn't say anything about hunting or cold calling, but the recruiter insisted it was covered by 'outbound' and was a requirement. I then told them I wasn't interested anymore, and we ended the call. The job description was misleading, as it seemed to be about cold calling and door-to-door sales rather than account management or client support as the title suggests. Also, the interview was conducted poorly with a lot of background noise.
- What is your reason for leaving your current job?
- What motivated you to apply for this role?
- What are your salary expectations?
