After submitting my resume, I had a phone chat with a recruiter a few days later, which went really well – they loved my resume and had no issues with my skills. Then, a few days after that, I spoke with the hiring manager on the phone. They were really chill and easy to talk to, and again, no concerns about my resume. They invited me in for an interview the following week where I met the hiring manager again, plus two other guys. They asked me questions and didn't find any fault with my skills or how proficient I am. While I was there, I noticed a really bad diversity issue – I didn't see any women or people of other ethnicities, which makes me think there aren't many, if any. After that, things really slowed down. I emailed the recruiter after a week, and they said they really liked me but were still interviewing others. The second week passed with no word. I reached out again and got an email saying they went with other candidates because of vague reasons like 'matching what we're looking for.' That totally explains the lack of diversity, and I'm pretty sure that's why I didn't get the job. The hiring manager hadn't even heard of some of the skills on my resume, and there were things I knew how to do that he didn't. The interview itself was energetic; I was enthusiastic, asked smart questions, arrived early, and dressed appropriately. No other reason makes sense.

First, you'll have a recruiter call where they'll check your resume and talk about your background to see if you're a good fit. They'll ask you some behavioral questions about your past experiences, strengths, weaknesses, and career goals. They'll also tell you about the company and the role. Then, you'll meet with the hiring manager to talk more about your work history and skills. They'll ask questions specific to the job and see if you'd fit in with the team and company culture. Finally, there's a technical interview where they'll test your technical skills. This might involve solving problems, coding, or showing your expertise. There could also be practical tests to see your hands-on abilities and a deep dive into your technical background and how you solve problems.
