The process was pretty fast. I applied on their site, and a recruiter hit me up a few days later. We chatted, mostly about my resume. Then, I had a call with an IT manager the next week to go over the role and how my experience fit. Finally, I met with an IT executive for more technical questions. I felt pretty good about it, but they had other candidates. The whole thing took about 3 weeks and was well-organized.

The initial phone screening, after chatting with the recruiter, was done by a business user since the role would work closely with them but report to IT. The IT department had completely different expectations for the role, which was obvious from the difference in questioning between the "latest" hiring manager and the other 5 interviewers who were business users. I mention "latest" because from the first call with the recruiter up to the final interview, there were several changes to who the role reported to and the hiring manager's location, which finally became clear on the interview day. During the interview, the business users focused on the practical application of the role's skills, as one would expect in a typical interview, while the "latest" hiring manager asked theoretical questions about "defining terms" that can easily be found online. It's also interesting that the job title on the Kronos job board changed a few times between when the role was first presented to me and the interview date. By the end of all the interviews, it seemed like they were trying to fit 3-4 different IT roles into this one position and were likely looking for a miracle worker. The job title kept changing, and the reporting structure was unclear until the interview day.

I applied online and a recruiter from Ultimate reached out. First, I had a phone chat with a recruiter. Then, an HR manager scheduled a phone interview for about a week later to go over the position. The interview happened on time, went well, and we talked a lot about the job. I shared details about my past experience and got good feedback. After that, I was given a take-home assignment: create a PowerPoint presentation and write a paper about 3-5 times I showed initiative in my career, with a deadline of under 2 hours. I did the assignment on time, but there was a file issue, so I had to resend it. Two weeks after emailing for an update, I got a brief email saying I wasn't moving forward, with no feedback on my work. I sent a polite email expressing disappointment and asking for feedback on my work and if I could apply for other roles. It's frustrating to do that much work without knowing why I was rejected, especially with an unrealistic deadline that felt like a psychological test.
