I like to keep the interview process open and conversational. For me, it’s important that it’s a two-way discussion—where I can learn more about the role, the patient population, and the team, and also share my experience and how I practice as a provider. I usually focus on understanding expectations, workflow, and how I can contribute effectively while providing safe, quality patient care.

I had a Zoom interview with the manager and administrator. My camera wasn't working on my computer for some reason. The manager asked some HR questions, and then the administrator asked a question. I felt I answered well, but I didn't get the job. I'm a medical coder and feel I might be overqualified for this CSR role.

So I had an initial interview with the department manager over zoom, and then I had a peer interview face-to-face. I thought it was a really fair process, and the peer interview was pretty diverse.

I first talked to the HR person who does the hiring for RNs. It was an in-person meeting at the HR office and she asked me about my personality and what motivates me. She also asked what kind of unit I was interested in, even though I didn't have any acute-care experience. I mentioned Med-Surg because I was worried about getting into critical care, but I kind of regret that now since others without experience got into the ICU. After that, I met with the manager of the unit I ended up being hired for, along with some of the RNs from that unit. They asked me more about nursing skills and how I'd handle specific situations. Once hired, there's a probationary period of three months where they can let you go pretty easily.
