& Process

I went through a phone screen and four more rounds of interviews. The interview process took longer than I expected because of internal delays. Most of the senior leaders I met with were professional and made me feel welcome, like they would consider me fairly for the team. However, two senior directors were not. It was evident that neither had really reviewed my resume or asked questions pertinent to the role based on their understanding of my previous work. After the last round, which had two interviewers, I followed up appropriately with the hiring manager and the recruiter. I never heard back from either. A couple of weeks later, I called the recruiter. She stated she was unsure about the position's status but promised to have an answer for me the next day. That answer never materialized. This entire process spanned over two months. It feels like a waste of time now, and my impression of Tyson Foods is that it's an insular, arrogant, and rather backward company regarding professional emotional intelligence.

I applied online and then got contacted by HR for the Management Trainee position. Over three weeks, I had three phone interviews with upper management. My recruiter was really helpful and kept in touch during the phone interviews. Then, I was invited for an in-person interview. They flew me out and let me stay for 2.5 days to explore the area. The hiring manager and recruiter checked in to make sure I was okay before my interview. When I got there, I interviewed with the hiring manager and the person I'd report to, since my manager wasn't on-site. We finished with a plant tour and lunch. The hiring manager said I'd hear back from the recruiter in a few days. It was the best interview process I've experienced.

I had an extended phone screen. I was set up to talk to one person, but someone else called, which was unexpected. For over 30 minutes, I talked about my experience and answered questions that didn't seem to relate to the job description. I sent a thank you email and followed up again weeks later, but never heard back. I'm fine with not getting the job, but being ignored completely is not okay. It's rude to ignore someone who took time off work or from their family. I made sure to take the call in a private room even though my mom was having emergency surgery, and I regret being so accommodating to a company that can't even respond to an email. If they treat candidates this poorly, I can't imagine how they treat employees.
