This is a guide on how to answer common job interview questions to help you land your next job. It covers 20 questions and provides tips for making your answers impressive. The goal is to help you prepare by giving you ideas for your own answers, tailored to your background and skills. Some specific questions discussed include 'Tell me about yourself,' 'How did you find out about the position,' and 'Why do you want to work here.' The advice includes focusing on professional aspects, being careful about personal disclosures, and researching the company beforehand. It also touches on how employers use these questions to understand your motivations and fit with the team.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- How did you discover this job opening?
- What makes you want to work at this company?
Sales and Marketing Coordinator
I applied online, the application was a bit long. A few days later, I got an email to schedule an interview. Scheduling was easy, but the person didn't answer my question. The interview was at an office, maybe a higher-up's place, but it was really dirty, even for a moving company. The furniture looked like it was someone's cast-offs. The interview started with one person, then a second joined while I was talking, and a third joined near the end. I wasn't told to expect more people. The interviewers' phones kept ringing, and one even took a call without leaving or apologizing. Near the end, after the third person arrived, one of them showed the other a text and they talked about it while I was answering a question. I've had many interviews, but I've never felt so disrespected. I decided I wouldn't take the job even if offered.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- What was the biggest disappointment from your last performance review?
- How do you approach task prioritization?
Human Resources
I applied online with my resume and then got an email asking for a phone interview time. I scheduled the phone interview and it took about 30 minutes. I asked about the next steps and they said they'd let me know in a few days if they wanted to do an in-person interview. I got an email to come in for the in-person interview pretty soon after the phone interview ended. When I got there for the interview, I waited in the lobby for about 30 minutes before it started. I met with the franchise owners, a husband and wife. I didn't feel like I'd fit in with their company culture and I didn't get the job offer.
- Can you describe your past Human Resources experience?
- What strategies would you implement to decrease accidents among movers?
Driver/Mover
I spoke with the GM for over an hour. He made it clear this job isn't for everyone and that they really value efficiency and having staff that are dedicated and work hard. He explained the payroll system and exactly how employees get paid for jobs. He stressed that overtime is common and paid well. He also mentioned that there are no benefits currently because this specific office doesn't meet the ACA requirements and isn't obligated to offer insurance right now.
- Given that this job is very physically demanding, why are you interested in working here?
