They want a cover letter and portfolio before anything. The job description was a bit unprofessional. Even though they are casual, you still need to be professional. The interviewer didn't show up or forgot until I reminded them, and the call quality was bad. I got rejected at screening and they told me to apply again. I wrote another cover letter, wasted 45 mins, and heard nothing back, not even a rejection.

The interview process took a couple weeks. It started with an email, then an online test that was pretty basic. After that, there was a 2-hour webcam interview where they talked about my background, company info, and answered my questions. Apparently, they only use Wordpress for the admin panel and don't like it when you know how to use other plugins or features. They seemed really elitist and cliquey. My advice if you interview here: make sure they know you hate plugins and prefer to code everything from scratch. Knowing how to extend plugins or use hooks doesn't matter to them. They'll reject you if they think you use plugins, even with tons of experience in Wordpress, other CMS/frameworks, and custom PHP. It's weird because they have so many Wordpress sites but don't know about multisites, preferring to code and manage everything separately even though all sites belong to their parent company. I think they struggle to hire because they look for a specific skill set but then reject people who actually have it.

I had a call with the recruiter which went fine. Then I spoke with the CPO, which was also okay. He seemed to really want PMs with a tech background. Based on other reviews, I don't think their work is so complex that PMs need to know how to code. I asked him for feedback and he suggested I find a nonprofit and a developer and build something for them. It's actually a pretty good idea. What bothered me was his attitude, like talking to me was a waste of time and my other experience didn't count. To each his own!
