So, I was initially contacted on LinkedIn by an external recruiter working with TS. The whole process took about 6 weeks, mostly virtual because of the pandemic. It started with a 30-minute phone call with the external recruiter, then another 30-minute call with the internal recruiter. After that, I had a take-home challenge, which took me a bit longer than the week they initially gave me. Then, I had a 1-hour Zoom call where I presented my challenge and past work to a peer. Following that, a 1-hour Zoom call with the hiring manager for a behavioral interview about my past work. Then, a 1-hour Zoom call with a technical lead about a potential product. Finally, a 30-minute Zoom call with a product manager about another potential product. After these steps, I got the offer. There were a few follow-up chats with the recruiters and the hiring manager where I asked more questions about the company, the role, and even got an office tour. They were super flexible when I needed more time to decide on the offer, which I really appreciated and made me feel more confident about joining. One thing though, having to submit my availability so many times before internal calls was a bit of a pain. I'd rather they just suggest a couple of openings via email. Maybe they could condense the interviews to like 3 days: pre-screening, presenting work, and team matching. That could speed things up, though I did contribute to the extended timeline too.

The interview process started with a hiring manager screen where we discussed my background and walked through a case study. After that, I was given a take-home exercise to choose from two problems. I had 7 days to complete and submit it, but unfortunately, I was rejected after submitting my work.

The interview process with TuSimple was pretty good. I liked talking with the PM/manager and the UX designers. The interviews were structured well and the interviewers were informative and approachable. The recruiter, Sarah, replied quickly to my questions. The whole process took over 3 months because of scheduling issues, but she kept me updated and gave me visibility into how things were going.
