First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co..
Investment Banker
It's a single interview, mostly behavioral. They'll ask you things like why you're interested in Energy, to tell them about yourself, and about your favorite class and why. Expect to hear back within about a month.
- Why are you interested in TPH?
- Why Houston?
- Why Investment Banking?
Research Analyst
The interview process began with a two-on-one behavioral interview that was pretty relaxed. The second round involved a series of 10-20 minute interviews with different people in the research department. While there were some technical questions, the main focus was on your understanding of current economic events, specifically OPEC's actions and the state of the oil market. Having energy or energy-related investment experience would be a significant advantage for an internship.
- Can you walk me through your resume and elaborate on your past experiences?
- Could you discuss the current activities of OPEC?
- What are your thoughts on the current oil market conditions?
Investment Banking Analyst
TPH opened a resume drop with my university's career center. After dropping my resume, I was contacted for a phone interview. Several days later I was invited to Houston for their super day. The super day consisted of 8, mostly 2-1, interviews with lunch in the middle. It seems as though most of the bankers in the office were involved in the interviews. Bobby Tudor was one round of the interview process.
- Can you answer some basic accounting questions?
- Can you sell me this pen?
Summer Analyst
Started with a phone screen, then a superday a week later. They brought in 8 kids for each of the two superdays and were looking to hire 5-7 summer analysts. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the group was really diverse in terms of backgrounds and schools. Since I was from an out-of-state, non-target school, I had to cold email to get the interview.
- Imagine dipping a 10x10 Rubik's cube into paint. How many individual cubes would have paint on them?
