Inside Sales Representative
I put in an application for an inside sales rep job online. Pretty fast, like within a day, I got an email asking about setting up a phone chat with someone from HR. We got that call set up for later that week, and it went for about 45 minutes. At the end, they mentioned I'd get an email to do an assessment to confirm I'm still a good fit, and then they'd reach out to schedule an in-person interview at either their downtown Omaha or west Omaha location. The in-person interview was set for a Friday afternoon and started right on time. A woman met me and took me up to the office of a guy. They both seemed a bit annoyed that I was there on a Friday afternoon, and even though I said sorry about the timing, I still made sure to show I appreciated the opportunity. They started asking about my past sales work; I told them I had more than 2 years in inside sales, hitting my targets, and that I'm really keen to earn more money. That's when they hit me with, "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" I told them I see myself making over six figures by then. Their reaction was, "Well, you won't be making that right away here." I explained that I get what the base salary is, but I'm aiming for more and that it'll take time, but I'm confident I'll reach my goals. The vibe I got from them wasn't great, and I worried I sounded arrogant, which wasn't my intention at all. I finished by asking about the next steps and when I could expect to hear back. They said they had other people to interview but I should hear something the following week. I left, shook hands, made eye contact, and thanked them. The next day, I sent a follow-up email to say thanks again. No reply, no contact, and no offer came through.
- Can you share your long-term career aspirations?
- Tell us about your experience in sales.
- Have you consistently met your sales targets?
Sales Representative
The hiring and interview process was straightforward. Given my several years of experience in sales, this might have contributed to the simplicity. TSYS conducts a thorough background check, so it's important to have a clean record.
- What is your understanding of the credit card industry?
Sales Representative
So I had my first interview, it lasted about 40 minutes and the person spoke really fast. They mentioned that the company has an 88% retention rate, which honestly isn't a great sign. The role is work-from-home, but you'll be visiting prospects in the area and cold calling. There are daily and weekly meetings with the regional manager in Chicago, Chris.
