Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TSB Bank.
Risk Analyst
The interview process was intense, pointless, and random. It started with a basic maths test, like something from secondary school, which seemed more like a filter for younger candidates. After that, I had a chat with two senior members of the department. They seemed tired and uninterested, as if they already knew the results.
- Can you share an instance where you had to communicate bad news?
Risk Analyst
I applied on 21/05/19, and applications closed on 21/06/19. The first step was a phone interview on 19/06/19. It was a quick 20-minute chat, mainly asking 1-2 questions about my CV, with the rest of the time used for me to ask my prepared questions. The next interview was on 02/07/19. It started with a 15-minute prep time for a mini-presentation using provided graphs on UK unemployment, mortgage lending types, house price changes, and households in arrears. Presenting was easy; it was more about presentation style and background knowledge. The main interview followed, beginning with a few questions about my experience with company values and then standard competency questions. They probably asked about 6-8 questions from a larger list. It finished with a 25-minute numerical test with 20 questions, starting easy but getting harder, so practicing logic, probability, and sequence questions beforehand is recommended. The whole thing took about 2 hours.
- Can you share an instance where you planned something to get a better result?
- Describe a time you took the lead or initiative to reach a goal you wanted.
- Tell me about a situation where you had to use information from different places to solve a problem.
Credit Risk Analyst
It was a two-stage process, starting with a phone call and then an in-person meeting. They asked about my experience with models, my past work, challenges faced in projects, some programming tasks, statistics, and I had to give a presentation on a past project.
- Can you tell me about the PD model you built previously?
