I got contacted on Hackajob by Laura Phayer for a senior engineering position at Trustpilot. The process involved a first call with a recruiter, a technical test, a PI behavioral and cognitive assessment, and a culture-fit interview. While the process seemed structured, the company clearly lacks transparency. Trustpilot really values culture, but that didn't come through in the interviews. Instead, it felt unclear and inconsistent. After the final interview, I was told I'd get feedback ASAP. It's been over a week and still nothing. Candidates are fine with a 'yes' or 'no,' but the silence and lack of communication is tough. Everyone just wants a clear decision, not a waiting game. It was also weird being asked after each stage if I still wanted to continue, which was a first and made the experience feel disjointed and disorganized. The recruitment team didn't leave a good impression, but the engineers I interviewed with were nice. Reading Glassdoor, it seems this communication issue is common. Honestly, I'm glad I saw this side of the company before getting an offer. Even if I had one, I would've declined. My advice to engineers: don't waste your time with Trustpilot—there are better, more respectful opportunities.

The interview process started with a basic phone call. Then, I was given a take-home assessment where I had to build a maze game using their API, which was pretty fun and took a good amount of time. After sending it back, I got an invite for a 1.5-hour interview. It was split between motivational/behavioural questions and a code review task. The interviewers were really nice. I got a call saying I'd hear back soon and it would be 'positive news'. But then it was radio silence for two weeks and I just got a rejection email. I tried to get feedback but was ghosted, which was frustrating after doing the take-home and all the stages.

I got a code challenge, then had a nice chat on the phone. After that, I went for a first interview which was pretty chill, we talked about the code challenge and a bit about a small system design problem on the whiteboard. Then, I had a second interview with tech leads, which wasn't really technical, more about seeing if I'd fit in socially and they gave me a tour. A few days later, they called with an offer. Overall, it was a really good experience.
